    Exclamation Bicolor in Terrebilis exhibit

Hi FF, ive recently visited the Vancouver aquarium and wanted to take some pics of the awesome collection of frogs they have But one thing i noticed that was kinda fishy was that in the Yellow dart frog (Phyllobates Terrebilis) exhibit they were all Bicolors (Phyllobates Bicolor) I understand this could be a common mistake but would it reflect on the laws on the ownership of these frogs in BC/AL? (I noticed that they were bicolors by the darkness on the toes.)

Are P. terribilis illegal where you live?

Also, i'm not certain that the frog you have pictured there is actually P. bicolor. It very well could be, but the toes color doesn't necessarily act as an identifying characteristic. It is also my understanding that there has been some mixed breedings of the two species and there is a lot of confusion about the two species anyway. It could be a mistake, but i'd be hesitant to say.

    Cheers,
    Alex

    - In captivity they are not poisonous. Dart frogs derive their toxins from diet, and a captive diet of fruit flies doesn't possess the alkaloids necessary to make the toxins.

-Thats a bummer. Until very recently (a few years I think) they (all Dendrobatids) were "illegal" to own in CT as well. The justification was basically the same, they fell under a "dangerous wildlife" law. Hopefully the situation will improve where you are. Is it just Phyllobates that are illegal? Have you talked to Mark Pepper at Understory? He may have some idea about the legal situation.

    Cheers!

I did not talk to mark but i did talk to Elaine about the availability of their frogs. Ill maybe
give them a quick e-mail about the legal ownership of the frogs, Thank goodness its only
the one that's illegal I hope i could possibly get ahold of some frogs!
