    Default African dwarf frog substrate

Is Tahitian moon sand a good substrate for my African dwarf frogs? I am feeding them by hand or in a small dish inside their tank. I have heard its great for fish but what about my frogs? I also have live plants in my tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Donna, Most sand substrates should be fine but i would get a sifter and clean out the sand first, its usually not the best option for aquatic amphibians, Play sand from home depot works fine as well. Since you are going to feed them in a dish or by hand, you shouldn't have to worry about impaction too much. I do not have much experience with live plants though, Bamboo and Kabomba work really well

ADF love plants to hide in or behind, they also like other hiding spots like a cave or similar things to hide in. They feel save in it. When they go for air they often like to hide for a short while after or in it.
Substrate can be important if they would get it inside when eating from a dish this might be prevented. but some of the food might still get out of the dish so I would still be careful with what to use. I do not know Tahitian Moon sand so really can not say anything about it but like said, sift sand substrate like play sand. I would not use colored substrate like the orange or purple stuff they sell in pet-shops.
