Last pm at feeding time I noticed one of my gray tree frogs has an eye problem.
I'm fairly sure its new because I check them pretty much on a daily basis.
It's on the outer area on his left eye, it effects approximately 1/4 of his eye, there's a small reddish spot and the rest is cloudy.... I've posted several pictures( Sorry..I've got no clue why they're upside down??)
If I had to guess it looks more like an injury than an infection....I've been in the medical field for 26yrs, but have had yrs of experience with my own eye problems
I did some reading, on the internet, which adbvised to use tetramyacine(a capsule you'd use to trest fish) in distilled water as an eye drop and the other advised a baytril mist with methyl (sp?) blue.
Since I'm not sure what it is, although I am leaning towards an injury, I'm not exactly sure how to treat it or if these meds are the best ways.
Are there better treatments and or a more "generic" treatment that will treat either problems?
I do have baytril and metronizole (sp?) drops, can either or both be used, as is or modified?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, bringing him to the vet right now it not an option
It looks like a superficial wound. I would just watch it and see if it improves on it's own over the next few days unless it gets noticeably worse. Then a Vet check would be recommended since loss of vision in one eye is going to effect the ability to catch food.

thanks for the response, I agree that it is a scratch / abrasion. I moved her out of the main tank into an isolation tank. When I first took her out of the main tank, when i saw the eye, she kept turning her head to look at me with the unaffected eye, but today when I checked her she was looking at me with the affected eye, so I think it's already improved
Since my last post it seems there's not been any noticeable improvement
So I think its time for medication. ..any advice on what I can use?
I'm trying to post rpics over the past few days for a better idea of its progression, or lack thereof
If it's not interfering with eye sight, & not getting worse I personally wouldn't mess with it. Just like when a human pops a blood vessel in the eyeball, it takes time to go back to normal. IMO

Thanks again Gail for your response. She seems to be doing fine, besides the eye problem, and as I've mentioned she's definitely looking at me with the affected eye, she kept turning her head to use the other eye initially. It doesn't appear worse, but not any better either. I'm trying to be patient, but its difficult sitting around waiting and I worry about her It also doesn't help that I lost a gray several weeks ago
Roxy was deformed and suffered from seizures for the first year of her short life, only 3yrs, but it was miracle she survived that long:.((ill post a pic of her)
I still have her in an "isolation tank" and is so tame that when I'm in the frog room I let her sit atop her container for the entire duration. She just sits there watching me, occasionally turning around for a different view She's safe and is in no danger, but she's not used to being alone, so I feel bad for her
Thanks again and ill keep updated her progress
If you have no vets available to look at that eye, might want to try and email Dr. Frye describing situation and attaching pics to see what he recommends. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Thanks Mentat (like the Dune reference)
I may do that...she seems about the same, no better but no worse. I'd post a picture but I've tried several times already with no success
