Hey everyone. I've recently been considering getting some PDF's, so I've started doing research about the whole subject. Before I even
consider getting any frogs or starting a vivarium I wanted to get two questions answered:
1. I'm in college right now, and in order to care for the frogs I would have to bring them home on the few breaks I have and then back to my house
at college when I returned. I plan on getting a vivarium that isn't too big, but even so would it be possible to do this once in a while and would this stress out
or be a concern for the frogs? What's the best way to do this if it is OK?
2. Also, my house at college doesn't exactly have the most constant temperature, so I'm concerned about keeping it warm enough for the coming semester.
I have a portable heating unit for my room, but I'm wondering if there is also a way to heat just the vivarium to the optimal temperature?
Thanks!
For the first question, this could possibly stress the frogs out depending on how often they are moved, and for question 2 you can purchase external or internal vivarium heaters and heat pads with thermostats so you can control the temp inside the vivarium
There are many types of heating methods.
If you have a water feature in your viv then I would use a combo of a adjustable submersible heater for aquarium use.
st to 75F min. and a max of 77F
don't skimp on this item.
Then for heat I use a head pad applied to a ceramic tile placed under the viv.
Never place a heat pad directly on the bottom glass of a viv.
many bad things can happen from burning your frogs (if they burrow) and shattering the bottom glass
if it gets hot and water gets into contact with it.
Zoo med makes good heat pads and controls.
I prefer the automatic controller the zoo med hygrotherm HT-10
It almost does it all.
It can control a mister or fogger for humidity and heat sources for temp control.
it can even do a night time cool down.
