Roach barrier - any alternatives to Vaseline?

For climbing species I like to use Vaseline because it seems to keep 99% of the inhabitants contained.....until it starts to melt and drool down the side of the plastic bin walls.

Is there an alternative and safe product to use that does not melt the way Vaseline does? I noticed on Aaron Pauling's website he sells a product that apparently is what I'm looking for, but does not give the name obviously :P

I'm not sure what its called but I have heard that it works great.

I use clear packing tape, works like a charm. The crickets will not cross it.

EDIT; Woops Im sorry, I thought you were talking about crickets, but It might work with Roaches..maybe. Sorry ha ha ha

I'm not sure if it's available in the US but there is something called Habistat bug barrier which is a spray they you just spray around the top of the roach enclosure and they can't climb it.

Yes that the stuff. It's in the UK though so postage may be a lot. Try and find some in the US first as it will probably be cheaper.

packing tape and i thin layer of veggie oil seems to work great but you will need to reapply it every 5 days or so.

Teflon tape cannot be gripped by roaches (or geckos, for that matter). You can tape a layer around the top perimeter and it will prevent anything from crossing.

Teflon Tape is a great idea as are SOME heat resistant HVAC tapes. (Not regular Foil Tape that crinkles) I recommend at least a double row barrier because roaches sometimes crawl over each other and thus can span over a single row of tape. The tape must be laid carefully with no air bubbles or crinkles. Obviously multiple layers will help in case of irregularities. Here is one that some of our friends say work Here is another tape that may work well. I have not used the latter two but am told by engineer types that it works. I personally use a layer of packing tape and another of teflon. The heat resistant ones may be better as they are less likely to degrade with time and heat of tropical roach colonies.
