Thread: Training Mice

I have been thinking about getting some mice lately. Then I came across a video of some guy with mice doing tricks such as fetch, shooting hoops, and jumping hurdles. Does anyone know how to train mice to do these kinds of things?

well I trained my hamster to go up and down stairs. All you need is treats or food, simply place in the trail you wish for the creature to proceed and make it practice mybe once or twice a day eventually he/she will do it him/herself.

Do you have an idea of how I can get it to retrieve a ball?

Dogs chase balls because it's fun and they bring it back so you can throw it again for them, mice on the other hand don't find it fun so if don't think you can train it to fetch a ball very easily. Maybe look at YouTube videos. I saw a mouse put a mini basketball through a mini hoop.

Check out skinner boxes. Operant conditioning is probably what the guy used to train them to fetch.

I actually found a really cool youtube channel, its mouse agility if i recall correctly. She teaches her mouse tricks very quickly and he shows how to get a mouse to fetch. It's a lot easier than expected. I just don't know how to have a mouse not run away from me.

A tame and socialized mouse will run up your arm. So I would make sure to get mice from a private breeder to better socialized mice.
