Thread: Stunted Growth?

    Default Stunted Growth?

I've had my six Green and Golden Bell frogs since around June. They were being kept in poor conditions and fed badly at the time that I rescued them. Since then, it seems they haven't grown at all. The largest is around 3cm long, while smallest is 2cm. I know this is abnormal, as being young frogs they should be growing quickly.

What's going on? How can I help them to grow? Is it possible their growth was stunted from poor husbandry?

If dragons were real I'd totally be in on that...

Stunted growth has never been proven to be real. If you put an anaconda in
a shoebox, it will outgrow it. What have they been fed and how often?

Up until July, they were fed undusted mealworms, most of which were too large, so they only ate the smaller ones. They were kept on bark and had no lighting.

Now they are being fed fruit flies every day to every second day. I dust with calcium+D3 every second feeding, and I've started dusting with Repti-Boost once a week for some extra calories and nutrients.

    Default Stunted Growth?

You are doing a great job! Their biggest growth period is generally in their first year. Yes, they may have been stunted. So long as they're eating well, pooping, and not too bloated they should be fine . You may end up with mini versions of their species. Super cute though!

    Any new photos?

Thanks Heather and Ryan yes, they're all pooping and eating well. I've noticed since making an effort to feed every day without fail, and dusting with Repta-Boost 1-2 times a week that they have started to gain weight (yay!) Treecko in particular, who had stayed emaciated and had very thin twiggy legs with no muscle, has started to bulk out and grow muscle on his hind legs, while Froakie (the runt) has pretty much caught up in size to the rest of the bunch! There is now very little difference in size between them all, so they must be growing my grandma came over today and remarked on how much they'd grown, so thats a good sign too.

As for photos, I have several that I need to edit and touch up, and now that I'm on exam leave I have the time to do so! I'll probably upload them to my Facebook page because FF limits the file size and quality, and as all my images are in PNG format that means they're pretty big!

Thanks for all the help and support as always <3
