Default Tree Frog Enclosure - Suggestions Appreciated

    Hello all,

I know its not the most interesting species, but I've got a WC Cuban Tree Frog (didn't have the heart to euthanize and has been an awesome pet thus). I wanted a really cool looking habitat and picked up an 18x18x24 Exo off Craigslist for $60 w/ reptifogger and lights.

Eventually I'd like to build a false bottom and waterfall with 100% live plants. For now though, this is what I came up with and so far she seems happy. I've never had a treefrog before so any critiques and suggestions are welcome!

I just bought a more suitable soaking bowl that is not in the pics.

    Substrate - Eco-earth/terrarium moss/sheet moss.
    Lighting - Repti-glo 2.0 and Repti-glo 5.0 on 12 hour cycle.
3 pieces of grapewood and that flexible vine stuff make up the climbing structure.
Two live plants but I have no idea what kind. Came from Petco. One seems to be doing well, the other hasn't grown, hasn't died.
    Temp Range - 74-76 ----- Humidity Range - 80-90%
Feed approx 3-5 gut loaded crickets every other day and once a week they're calcium dusted.

This is the new bowl. I was amazed last night when I first noticed her sitting in it. I couldn't believe the color change! She's never been that light colored and blended very well with the bowl.

Looks pretty cool. Just remember, as long as the basic needs are met (temp, humidity, water, food) the frog will be happy. The aesthetics are for us looks like the needs are met well for the frog, so if you are happy with it, then there ya go!!

I've never kept a Cuban, but with any tree frog more climbing areas or ledges up high will usually get used.

I'd say it's actually a pretty awesome looking frog. Thanks for pulling it out of the wild population.

Haha! She is a cool frog but definitely not little! About five inches or so nose to tail! Cubans are all over FL and causing a lot of problems so that's why I say "uninteresting," but she is very interesting to me!I appreciate all the positivity and encouragement! Hopefully this will be good practice so I can get a rare breed later!

That IS big . Nice! I do think he/she would enjoy a nice large climbing plant in the future .

That is pretty surprising, especially since you are much further south than I am. According to a guy from University of Florida who is mapping them, a few make it all the way up to the panhandle each year but there are many more cases of them the further south you go. They're becoming pretty regular here in St. Augustine. If you want one I'd be glad to give ya the next one I find so I don't have to be a murderer :-( A buddy of mine has quite a few that hang around his pool area that I could get for you if wanted.

Here is some information regarding the problems they are causing, along with a humane way to euthanize if anybody in Florida finds them and doesn't want to keep them. The email address for the guy from UF is on there also. Florida Wildlife Extension at UF/IFAS

When I redo the tank with false bottom I plan to put some more live plants in there. I wonder which plants will support her weight though. She's heavy!

Can anybody identify the two plants I have in there right now? (green ones, not the fake red one!)

I can't see the one on the left well, but the one on the right is a dracena.

Pothos and rhododendrons have heavier leaves, especially if you use a clipping from a larger plant. Soak the rooted end in water for a week or two changing out the water every couple days and new roots should sprout.

Euthanize? Why would you consider euthanizing this amazing fella? He is magnificent.

Check out the website I posted and it explains why euthanization of this species in the wild is recommended in Florida. They're invasive and destroy the ecosystems across the state. They even wipe out the populations of native creatures, even native tree frogs! I kept this one because its the first one I've seen in my neighborhood, but any others I find will have to be euthanized. Lots of good info on the website!

Thanks for the tips. That will be extremely helpful! Are Dracena ok to have in any tank?
