    Default Costa Rica 2010

    We had an excellent trip to Costa Rica this year. We found 56 different species of reptiles and amphibians, nearly half of the known species in the preserve (122) in less than 2 weeks. Below are some of the reptiles. Give a try at identifying them, i'll post the answers in a week or so.

    Great photos. And it was only on my second time through that I saw the tadpole in the last picture.

    Amphibians pictures are -
    1. Incilius coniferus, green climbing or evergreen toad
    2 & 3. Duellmanohyla rufioculis
    4. Centrolene ilex, Limon giant glass frog
    5 & 6. Smilisca phaeota, masked treefrog
    7. this last one is just a guess on my part and I am not 100% sure on my ID, but here it is Trachycephalus venulosus, pepper treefrog

    This is what I was able to ID in reptiles.
    1. Bothrops asper, fer de lance
    2. Bothriechis schlegelii, eyelash viper
    5. Diploglossus bilobates
    6. Lepidophyma reticulatum, tropical night lizard
    7. Mabuya unamarginata?
    8. Diploglossus bilobates
    12 & 13. Polychrus gutturosus, throaty bush anole
    14. Oxybelis brevirostris, green vine snake
    16. Porthidium nasutum, hog-nosed viper
    19. Norops capito, pug-nosed anole
    20. Dendrophidion percarinatum, Central American forest racer
