Default Do PDFs need a fan in the Enclosure?

So before I go ahead and start with the background of my new enclosure, I was wondering if I need to find space to add a Fan? If so I will build something that is hidden

    Thanks in advance.

You do not need a fan in a PDF vivarium

    Hi there,

While you do not absolutely need a fan, your plants would benefit from the air circulation. Should you decide to incorporate a fan, I recommend Justin Grimm's video on you tube regarding vivarium ductwork. Most helpful. Best of luck.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for your replies.

Judy, that was actually what made me think about asking and if I should include it in my Vivarium. I was looking at having real plants, orchids etc so would be beneficial? Correct? It was in fact the video on Youtube that prompted me to ask as I thought it was a good idea and pretty easy to include into my Viv before I complete making my background ^_^

    Hi dbizal,

You are absolutely correct. I currently have 1 terrestrial and numerous ephyphytic orchids in my tank. They would surely perish without adequate ventilation. In nature they regularly experience periods of being wet then drying out. If you decide to put in Justin's ductwork system, please let me know how it works for you. You are wise to consider this prior to your actual tank build.
take care and good luck to you,

    judy

I have mini orchids in all my vivariums and do not have fans in any of them and i do not have problems. Placement in the vivarium is key. I do agree some varieties like more air flow however i have not seen any difference in the plants in a vivarium with a fan than my vivs without. By placing the orchids higher up in the vivarium it allows them to dry out between misting and tends to stay a bit warmer as well. I have seen a lot of people swear by the addition of fans however in my experience they are not needed, again its the placement of the orchids in the vivarium that is key not the air movement. Im sure some will disagree and that is fine this is just from my experience and nothing more. The good thing about this hobby is everyone has a little different way to do things. In a PDF vivarium my concern would be that the fan doesnt dry out the viv to much for the frogs after all its the frogs you have to think about first and the plants second. is it going to have an automatic misting system installed or hand misting?

    Sorry for the late reply.

I will be hand misting for now until I will more than likely save up for a misting system.
