Hey guys just to vent a little, words can't describe how mad I was at these people in store..... And they didn't listen.... And i was kinda nice about it at first
Anyhow that pic went to SPCA too along with a complain.....
Never ending topic on pet shores
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
Let me guess. They knew everything there was to know about these frogs already huh. I have had words several times at local pet stores on how they were keeping frogs. Wish I could take them all in.
Ugh is all I can say. I am relatively happy with how my local Petsmart keeps them. In small critter keepers on damp cocofiber with a little water dish. They always look ok. But generally speaking, I hate pet stores and their people who think they know it all and know nothing.

PS I actually went back to that Petsmart to see if the frog I posted a photo of last week was still there. It was not. If it was I was going to have another frog hehe
Guess they think Pacmans are bog or swamp creatures .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
Yeah most likely.... And I'm sure that bright light is uvb

I think we need to teach a class on proper housing of frog species. Mostly just for ignorant stores like this one.
Just read some guy in London killed his fish and blinded himself temporarily when he grabbed a UV (sterilizer) bulb and screwed it into the tank top fixture. Lack of knowledge can be hazardous to humans and their pets !

That would be a hard job. Multilocational educational pacman frog youtube video forwarded to thousands of pet stores.
And all these pet stores couldn't care less

They don't realize that the healthier animal that they sell the more return customers they will have. More money for them in the long run. I saw a cranwelli at petco today that was labled as an ornate. It was actually kept pretty good. My only complaints was that the enclosure was too big, and the crickets were way too big.
My local pet store keeps pacmans on giant bark pieces, also refuses to listen.
Way back before they used coir for substrate these now dangerous substrates like bark were acceptable. They were recomended in very small chips or very large. One that could possibly be passed if accidentally eaten and the other to prevent them being eaten at all. Old books will say to use such substrates, but of course the info is outdated for the most part.
people like this make me sick! i think someone who
knows something about frogs should be hired there

Well said everyone. The chain pet stores should train all their employees. Also their so called care cards can be a real "joke". I had an on line "discussion" with a so called reptile vet. He was saying on line to feed such and such to a certain species of tortoise. Every book I have read said never, never feed this to this kind of tortoise. There are uninformed vets too who should know better. I really enjoy this forum. No, I don't have a frog yet. That's why I am here to read and learn. We have a local owned pet store and a "chain" pet store here in Juneau. Cheers.
That's alot better than one of the petshop here, they keep their frogs on moss and everything in the enclosure is always too dry. Frogs always looks like they're dehydrated.
I just bought mine from a chain pet store. I think I rescued it. They had something like Eco-earth but they had spagnum moss in there too. The moss was a dry as a desert wind. If I was younger I would go to work for them and hopefully educate them thanks to forums like this.
