OK so i caught an American toad while out working in the yard, it is about 1 inch from vent to snout. So here is my question, i have a pyxie frog as well, and my biggest fear is cross contamination. What is the standard procedures for having multiple frogs, and or wild caught frogs? Clearly they will be kept separately, what precautions should i be taking, the lil guy looks quite healthy. I'm a bit OCD, so i can follow complex instructions if needed. Thank you!
Hello Daitar and congrats on your new toad ! Here is a care article to help set-up a home for Toad: Frog Forum - Toad Basics - Keeping ground-dwelling Toads. A care sheet for Bufo, Anaxyrus, Spea, Scaphiopus, Ollotis, Alytes, Pelobates .
Main thing is to wash hands well after handling Toad or conducting any chores (feeding, cleaning, etc.) in his enclosure. Also, do not share any items between Toad and other frogs (feeding tongs, water dishes, etc.). Treat Toad as any new frog into collection and quarantine for at least 30 days with 2 negative fecals 2 weeks apart. Then you can go from extreme OCD to normal common sense ! Good luck and please do share pics .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
