I've got a exo-terra themo/hygrometer in my viv for three or four days now. At first the temp was round76-78 and humidity round 70%. Then two days ago yesterday I noticed the humidity had gone to 90 so I haven't misted but changed the water still. When I was feeding and cleaning today I noticed my substrate was nearly dry. So I've come to a conclusion that my new hygrometer is broke!? Is there a way I can check it or set (cant think of the word) it?

Hi Dan, if digital combo meter I don't think you can calibrate it. Not sure if same in UK; but here if something stops working after 3-4 days; you just return to store with receipt and trade it for another one. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
You can try blowing out the probe with a hair dryer. I do this every couple weeks on my meters
It can also be affected by outside temp/humidity. When it's rainy and humid outside my hygrotherm will say the humidity in the vivarium is high even if my substrate is dry. If it's stuck at a constant 90% and doesn't go with a weather change then there could be something wrong with the device.

I have a few questions.Do you mist or spray your tank or do you have a fogger?
If you mist or spray your tank you have to be very careful not to mist or spray the sensor of your device or it will definitely malfunction.
I'll also agreed to the censer being affected by weather.
Because it really only checks the moisture and the temperature of the air not the substrate.
I am a engineer and inventor.
I'm working on a censor placed in the substrate that will safely measure the moisture level of the substrate.
There's a way to calibrate hygrometers but not sure about the duel thermometer ones

This will help you determine if it is faulty, but clean out the sensor first.

Ok thanks guys, so I took it out the viv and blew on it and it dropped slightly to 82%, I'm manually misting until I can afford a fogger with a built in hygrometer that should work better!? There is a chance my frogs have been sat on it? Or water has got onto it as there is often condensation in my tank. Maybe my best bet is to return it!?
