Default Can't Keep Humidity Up Long Enough

How can I keep the humidity up in my new 10 gallon viv? I spray it in the morning for 60 seconds and it usually reaches 80% but by afternoon it's back down to 60%. I don't know what the problem is. Half the top is covered in glass. The substrate retains moisture. 60% of the tank is water. I want to figure out how I can make it last longer because if I ever go away for a few days, none of the people I ask can spray the tank three times a day. Should I cover three quarters of the top with glass?

You can temporarily use plastic wrap or aluminum foil to decrease ventilation until you maintain desired humidity with couple sprays a day. Once dialed in; then can leave as is or replace glass with one cut to new measurement. Do keep plastic wrap at least 1 in. away from lamps and other heat sources. Another option is to get a humidifier and an automatic controller, like a Hygrotherm. Good luck !

Sorry, but I don't think I quite understand the plastic wrap solution. It'll help while it's there, but won't the problem start again once it's removed?

You add or remove plastic wrap coverage of screen top until you dial in the targeted humidity. Then have two choices, leave taped plastic wrap as is, or go with nicer glass or clear polycarbonate piece that provides the same coverage you already dialed in with plastic wrap .

Yes, but it will help you while you search for a permanent solution, in the days ahead.

    Edit: Slow response it seems.
