Today I fed my Rana Aurora two house flies after which he was fine, noticed him changing posture as frogs tend to do. Then after about two hours my husband and I found him in the water with his nose and mouth submerged with his mouth somewhat open; His limbs were out-stretched. He looked as though he was dead, any help is surely appreciated. I am no novice to frog care, I've had frogs my whole life nearly. Just disturbed me. Can't stop thinking about him.
He had rigor mortus as well
Welcome to FF and sorry your frog is sick . How is frog presently doing? Unless cultured, house flies could be exposed to toxic chemicals and insecticides. If frog is that sick, a visit to veterinary ASAP is recommended. Good luck !
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
I agree with Carlos. This is something only a Vet can handle. I've never heard of this before.
Are you sure he didn't jump into the wall of his tank from something startling him and he knocked himself out? Or a possible seizure?
I didn't see what happened...my husband checked on him 45 mins. prior to my finding him dead....He had rigor mortus already when I had discovered him. I've had him nearly a month with no incident. My little rana' aura was gone, this is the first time ever that I've ever used a terrarium. Usually I have a big wooden bowl with redwood burl and fern with about 4 inches of water and a lamp. My toads and frogs would live together, I have a thing against buying pets as I believe that if a pet is supposed to come into your life it will happen. I've been raising frogs since I was 11 and now I'm 26.
