I want to use an incandescent bulb for heating the air for my pixie instead of the substrate.. how would I use these and what exactly do I get? Also I might get a lamp/bulb from a buddy but I haven't seen it in person yet butI have a picture so ill post it but what should I be looking for? heres the light I could get.
You can use that with a red/black bulb to heat the ambient air.
If you only need heat, but no light Ceramic Heat Emitters work well. They get really hot though so you will need a cage lamp like that or a large dome lamp with a ceramic socket with a dimmer switch. No light does make it hard to adjust the amount of heat produced by these with a dimmer, but can be done.
The bulb in my picture is a 60 watt red bulb. I adjust it accordingly to provide correct temps. They are around 5 dollars.
Hygrotherm = no worries.
im talking about the 60 watt red bulb being ok in the socket sorry for not being clear with my questions btw haha. and yea temp control is a good thing.
Ah yes. Make sure you have a dimmer. And it does take a while to get the perfect temps. Also bulbs tend to not produce as much heat over time, so you will be constantly adjusting the dimmer little by little.
what should I look for in a dimmer iv never used those. iv heard something about them catching on fire if the load is not enough is that true?
The housing unit for the the light bulb *should* have a tag on it indicating max wattage acceptable for use.
