I am afraid i am not providing enough heat for my frog. My strip thermometer has stopped working and it feels cold in there. I use a 13 watt UVB to heat the tank. I also have a 75 watt basking UVB bulb and a 60 watt daylight UVB bulb with me. Do they even require UVB? I'd not, can I just use a regular lightbulb that i can find in my house? Although i think it is cold, he is always burrowing to the bottom at the point that i can see him.
What kind of frog
Yes for day you can use a regular low wattage lightbulb. Just make sure there is shade underneath.
I use heatmats for all frogs, currently I had to mix and match to get my 2 froglets at 27.9, I actually had to use an entire heat cable + 1 heatmat on each side to reach that temperature.
Pacman frogs do not require UVB, I currently use led lights aimed at an angle, so part of the enclosure is bright and some of it shaded.
My heat pad is not working and my only sources of heat i have are lights. Also I don't want to risk my pacman burning by staying next to the wall all the time. (Heat pad on the side)
is the heat mat above the substrate on the side?
I don't have one, that was just a scenario, it happened to my tree frogs.
I'm not really worried about that, I have cork back and side panels, the heat spreads quite nicely among them, my temperature probe is attached to the corner between the mat and cable and touches the wall where they both cross, so that should be the hottest point and that reads 28.5 right now.
If your worried about burning, just hang the heatmat a few cm above the substrate, so the pacman can't directly touch it.
I'm no tree frog guy, but wouldn't an uth be better underneath for tree frogs since heat travels up? Anyways using just lights for heat is fine. I've been thinking about getting a heat cable though. Gotta do my research first.
Well I was seven years old when I had my tree frogs, i wouldn't know better
I just changed the lift and my pacman is showing odd behavior, he is jumping across the side if the enclosure back and fourth.
I'm not sure, but I think he is comfortable now. He did not start burrowing yet, but he is sitting under some foliage.
Might be a bit too much. I'm using a 40 with a dimmer. He has shade right?
