First step to my vivarium build.
Good first step !

Started to build my false bottom today. 8/10/13
Looking great! You did a really clean job with the screen; I like it. Are you going to build in an access hole so you can siphon water out of the bottom?
Yes, I plan on having a drip wall or waterfall. I'm going to have two lines (Y- connection) so I can siphon water out using the same pump. I don't know if you can see it in the pics but the false bottom does not go all the way to the glass. this way I will put rocks around the outside of the bottom for a clean look. That's why the screen is all the way around the sides.
Ah, I did not notice that. I can't wait to see more pictures!
Nicely folded screen looks like gift wrap ! Curious about slanted bottom and how will it all work together when done.

OK after looking over what I wanted to do I had to lower the sub-floor by 1 inch or less (remove 2 square rows from egg crate). I wanted to make sure the substrate does not slide out the front door LOL. This will also make it easier to line the out side edge around the false floor with stone. I also used black GE silicone II to cover the back of the vivarium. Some say this helps with the Great Stuff sticking to the glass, some say it does not matter. I did it so the back of the tank from the outside has a finish look. Will post Pics...
First coat. done but I will be doing a 2nd coat to cover thin areas.
New Lower Sub-floor.
The way you folded that screen around the eggcrate ......... I am going to have to get you round at xmas to wrap all my presents !
So I did some more work on my vivarium and I can see some future problems. One my sub-floor got stuck . My fault after I add silicone to the back wall and I place the sub-floor in to see what it looked like. I did not take it out and went to bed. Well it stuck to the back. Pushing forward I Great Stuff the back wall last night and cover it tonight. After covering the GS I see I should have used weed-blocker not screen. So I'm going to double layer the screen so the substrate will not fall through to easy. Every day is a learning experience ..!
Looks very nice, congrats Wildside !
