Default Phyllomedusa sauvagii - smooths vs. nubby

    Hi,

I have a question regarding Phyllomedusa sauvagii:
Phyllomedusa sauvagii does exist with a smooth skin on the back (>>click here<<), as well as with a lot of pimples/warts (>>click here<<). I am curious about the reason for this! I assume these are regional differences. I have seen imports from Paraguay (from small to large specimens), where none had these pimples. Beginning of this year I got some CB specimens where already the small froglets had lots of pimples. Unfortunately, I don’t know the origin from their parents.

Does anyone know the reason, why are there smooth skinned ones and warty ones? If there are populations with and without pimples, does anyone know where the warty ones come from?

    all the best,
    Martin

there should be some regional genetic differences i assume. all CB that I saw in a past few years were from Jusuke and all had something in a middle, not too smooth but not as warty as yours in the pics, babies were all more warty and they grew up to be close to completely smooth.... very interesting, never thought about it. logically thinking these warts makes them look less glossy and perhaps it makes them less visible in a wild

Jusuke, is that a breeder? Does he has a website?

I have the impression, that in the US the warty version is more common. Does anyone know, where the imports in the US are from? The imports in Europe in the last couple of years came from Paraguay.

no i believe he is just japan wholesaler, samurai reptiles, someone else breeds for him in Japan.
the problem with US and Canada right now that there were no imports for a while and in general to find waxy is very problematic, I'm looking to get a nice group for a few years now, nobody breeds and nobody sells.
