My baby frog hates it when I pop up suddenly at eye level to it. I try not to do it, but my female's tank is on floor level so that requires me getting back up. Anyway, it was sitting in it's bowl and saw me do that... decided to swim in a circle 5 times, hopped out and buried it's face in a prior hole made.
And yes, 75% of the rest of it's body was still sticking out. I think this frog was supposed to be an ostrich.

I really wish I got it on video. Totally a dufus thing to do, haha.
Baby and juvenile Pyxi Frog lack tubercles so they usually have to aquire already made burrows. This is why the frog enters head first, but if tbe soil is soft the frog can burrow without having tubercles. Tubercles are the hard extenstion of the metatarsal used as a shovel by the frog to burrow. These don't grow on Pyxies until they are Sub-adults and adults.
They also will dig perminant burrows in which to use while active during the rainy season. Just some interesting facts.
That's actually very interesting, and I assumed it MAY have contributed to that kind of behavior. Glad to see I was on the right track... and glad to see my frog wasn't in the wild because it is terrible at hiding.
