    Default Bullfrog eyes closed

    Hi guys new member here.

Been having some trouble with my bullfrog of late. Had him 4 months and in first two months was great he put on weight and was eating well.

Then started having trouble he used to flip onto his back and i would find him upside down in his tank. Also he went for ages without eating and lost weight.

Took a log out of his tank and he seemed fine no longer flipping and I also turned the temperature up as was a bit low.

He was fine more active and put weight on again.

However he has now sat in his water bowl for almost 2 weeks, i havent seen him eat and his eyes have been closed the whole time. Really getting worried about the little fella.

Photo of him in his tank was when he was younger and feeding well. Next photo is how he has been for past 2 weeks. Really worried.
His tank moss and i feed him crickets with powder.

It almost looks like he needs to shed is skin. You need to ditch the moss though, they can eat it and become impacted. I use cocofiber for my guys with a water bowl large enough so they can soak. Hopefully someone can give you more insight.

Do a honey bath asap. It will help him and if it doesn't work then a vet. He looks really bloated and needs to shed some layers too.

It could also be that he's trying to hibernate .....its possible for them to do it without burrowing if things are too rough.

    Not a bullfrog number one.

Very bloated as already pointed out, could be from a few different reasons. Eyes are likely closed due to the pressure on the skin surrounding the eyes.

Get rid of the moss ASAP. I just saw this pic from my pc. It looks bad....like a balloon about to pop. Do a honey bath asap and hope he poops.

I agree with poison, it needs to go to a vet asap. The flipping issue is neurological, which it seems it has not fully recovered from. The reason it's sitting in it's water bowl for two weeks is because it is trying to "cure" itself. It could of eaten some of that sphagnum moss you have it in and became impacted.

Also indeed this is a bullfrog.

That's what they look like in estivation but that's probably not what he is doing. He obviously hasn't been able to slough due to being bloated. Take it to a vet.
