Hello Frog Forum, we were in the woods today and we came across these little brown guys. We're not too sure what they are, and would like some help identifying them. If anyone knows what these guys are we'd appreciate the help, as we're planning on keeping them as pets and want to know what conditions to keep them in! Thank you
I am going to make a guess here, and it's only a guess as it looks like these are young toads, but I am not in the UK and not familiar with UK species. Toads tend to have more bumps on their skin then frogs and can tolerate drier conditions and are actually not good swimmers. Where there tadpoles in the area you found them? If so, if the tadpoles were black those are toad tadpoles. Hope this helps. Give them some land or dry spots in their habitat and if you find they spend more time on the "land" they may be toads. Search common European toad pictures online and see if they match. I had a pet toad once (common american toad) he was great, loved the sides of his head rubbed and would lean into your finger and puff out his chin.
