Exclamation Xenopus x Fish ... HELP!

    Hi!
I've got a 3-year-old male frog (Xenopus laevis) that sings a lot.

He lives by himself in a tank, but I've been thinking of making a much larger one and adding fish. I know he'd eat any fish there smaller than his mouth (or nearly the same size), so I thought: could this frog live with carps, plecs, or goldfish?

I've seen some videos of common tanks with many species along the frogs. Could you please tell me of some species that get along well?

I'd like some opinion before I risk anything, since my boy is my love and I don't want to risk his life or the future fish's.

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! there are people who add fish with clawed frogs but
its not always a good idea, the fish could transmit diseases that the frog could
get such as anchor worms, i would quarantine your fish before adding and select
the healthiest ones from the pet shop.

Your frog will def eat anything small you put in with it, and will attack and try to eat anything else from what I've heard. Which can lead to injury or worse for either party. The best tank mate for your ACF is another ACF =) get a baby or 2 grow em out in a separate tank and once they are of similar size introduce them all to the big tank. Or use smaller thing that you don't quite mind getting eaten. I like to dump some ghost shrimp in from time to time and their cool to watch swim around and what not and they just slowly disappear over time as the frogs find em

The main problem with carps (koi?), goldfish, and plecos (these can be aggressive towards aquatic frogs) is that these can be attacked/eaten and they are all big messy fish. I guess if you had a huge tank it could work but there are other pitfalls as well, as others have mentioned (mainly disease).

I like the ghost shrimp idea. In my experience they last quite a while, yeah the frogs eventually hunt them down but it takes a few months for them to find every single shrimp (they are good at evading too!).

If you really want to go the fish route you could get guppies and breed them in another tank. They will be eaten, depending on the voracity of your frog it could take a hours to days to hunt down all the fish, some are less interested in fish though but most Xenopus will hunt relentlessly and are always hungry.
