Default Can bullfrogs have a basking spot?

Could I put a low watt heat bulb at the top of his tank above his water bowl? He won't get dehydrated because it will be pointing at his water. He just never uses his heat mat even though its warm there.

Generally basking spots are for reptiles, there are some exceptions
though. you can probably put anything below 50 watts above his tank
    to be safe.

The bulb I was going to use is a 40 watt bulb so will that be ok above his bowl? If you look at wild bullfrogs they are under the sun in African pretty much all day.

Of course you can use a basking spot.
    50W max and without UVB'S.

Don't forget that Pyxie frogs leave in Savannha in Africa, and they are used to receive sun !

Put some hidding places in the enclosure so that they can protect from the ligh and heat if they need to and ensure enough required humidity (Spraying water, Reptifogger, etc...)

Yes you can. I use a zoo med 50 watt basking bulb with a tight beam and a dimmer lamp and it works great.

+1. Heat mats only heat up the surface and not the air like heat lamps.

I use both, but never over a water source.

Why is that? Won't he dry out and get dehydrated if its at his dry side?

i personally dont have the bulb over the watersource cuz it heats the water up and it evaporates too quickly,i also dont keep my bullfrogs quite as wet/humid as alot of other people, im not saying their wrong its just what works for me,i have a 60w heat bulb at one end and the water source at the cooler end of the viv so my frog has a choice of hotter and drier or cooler and wetter,i rarely mist the viv probably only once a week i dont use heat mats and ive never had a frog estivate
