Hi,my marine toad wont eat on her own,I put in there baby anoles,flyes,etc...I have to force feed her .When she was recently caugth, she eated well.
When was the last time she ate by herself? And also how many days later did you force feed?
The last time she eated by herself was in april or march.Since then i force feed her.
Hmm, I wouldn't force feed a cane toad as she might become afraid of you because they're quite intelligent. Mine will attack feeding tongs even if there is no food on them because they learn quickly, and since they learn quickly she will learn to be afraid of you because I doubt force feed ing is fun for her. It would probably be very distressing having your mouth forced open.
Give Waxworms a try because mine can't resist them.
Could you also post some pics of her setup and what temp and humidity is it in there?
HI,i dont have higometer or the other thing but i will get it the next week,i have paper towel as a substrate,a hide, and a water bowl and i have her in a 10 gallon.Sorry my camera is broken.
How old is she and how long?
I have her since February,She is about 8 or 9 months old
And how long in inches?
3'9 inches
Ok well I have a few tips for you. First I think you should upgrade her enclosure to at least a 20 gallon. Also I would get rid of the paper towels and use some kind of soil substrate like eco earth or exo terra plantation so il(which is what I use). Get a humidity monitor and spray the tankonce a day to create high humidity. Without pics I cant give anymore advice about setup. You could answer the trouble in the enclosure questions and post your answers along with the questions on here and I could help some more. Also a quick question how many cane toads do you have?
I have 1 cane toad but trying to get a male.
What type of substrate i can get from Waltmart or something like that?
Eco earth, bed a beast, and other soil substrates. Try and buy some exo terra plantation soil off the internet. Its what I use and have had no problems with it.
what soils i can use and humidity minimum
Sorry for my spelling errors i am a puerto ricans talk spanish, but i understand english
The soil should be moist, not wet but not dry. This will keep her humidity high.
since you got her what have you been feeding her on?
Baby live Anoles, wild caugth moths and freeze dried crickets but the live food I have to force feed her because I was afraid that he could ingest substrate but now he have been eating freeze dried on his own
have you tried wax worms, earthworms, small locusts or cockroaches? i have never had a problem getting any of m cane toads to eat live food i would look at the way in which he is housed and make a few changes i can help but feel the he is not "happy" i would give him a new substrate and more places to hide alex
When i first recieved my cane toads they would not eat for weeks. they were certainly frightened of me. I provided small prey items such as crickets. I put them in a 40 Gal tank with a large water tub to climb in. I set a temp of 80-85 F and left them alone. They feed at night. The room they are in I kept dark and quite. Eventually they started eating. They are still afraid of me and will only eat if I am super quite. But i agree if you are force feeding them they will be afraid and shy away and wont eat. Give your cane toad its space and a comfortable home and i think you might have a little luck.
cane toads are amongst the boldest species in the world within 3 or 4 weeks i have been able to hand feed all of mine i have known 30 or 40 over the years what of other cane owners on here are yours shy? or bold?
