    Thank you for this. Up until recently I've always been very afraid of culturing fruit flies, but after reading this, and working with the culture that I got from silkwormshop I think this can easily be done.

    hi..
    i just want ask, if i use a regular fruit fly is it ok ? can the dart frog catch the fly if is not a flightless fruit fly..because i can't find any flightless fruit fly in indonesia .. thanks

    scratch pads=those green cleaning pads or like a velvet type material? just something that lets air through but not moisture out?

    I got mold my first tries... Then I added some vinegar to the water on the next cultures and have been mold free since (:
    0.0.4 Dendrobates Auratus 'Nicaraguan Green and Black'
    0.0.4 Dendrobates Azureus
    1.2.0 Canyon Tree Frogs
    1.0.0 Green Tree Frog

    Thanks it did work. As the post stated, there are many ways to make a culture. Fruit flies are
    easy to raise. I don't use excelsior as it brings in mites. As long as I use something else
    (corr. cardboard) I don't have a mite problem, I also set all cultures on mite paper just in case.
