Default Being sold as a giant?

    Hey everyone.

I was just perusing a popular reptile site and saw this frog for sale, listed as a Giant African Bullfrog.
Seller claims male, CBB. It doesn't look anything like the GABFs I've seen but strongly resembles a dwarf to me.

Was hoping to get some feedback before sending this seller an informative message.

Looks like a female GABF with some very unique coloring. Doesn't look much like a male Giant and yellow coloring is not an exact science for sexing these frogs. Male Dwarfs do tend to have alot of yellow on the chest and arm pits. The head is a decent size, but most male GABFs. Don't have full yellow throats.

I'd like to know the size SVL of the frog and age before giving a definite answer. If it is a Dwarf it is a male.

    Thanks, Grif.

The seller doesn't list SVL but states that the frog weighs 1.4 lbs and is 2 years old.

The seller is defending his stance that this is a true giant, as it was purchased from Frog Ranch.
I have sent him a link and invited him to join this discussion if he pleases.

Who is selling it? Whats the website? What price?

Not sure if you were interested in buying it, but if there is any question as to the rep of the seller, check the FC BOI, then if doubt remains, move on. There are plenty of customer friendly, reputable sellers out there. Nice looking frog. If he's listing it as a Male Giant, 2 yrs old, the seller may be mistaken. Would like to know SVL.

Please keep this frog because these type of P. edulis are not seen often in the frogtrade. Its not P. Adspersus but these type of the p. edulis getting just as big as the p. adsperus. Some people called this big p. edulis specy P. Obbianus.

Looked at this video its the same specy you have and its big. The one I have is even bigger. See pic

Reptile Outpost - Giant African Bull Frog - YouTube

The seller in the video also don't know that its not a P. adspersus. People think its big so it must be an adspersus.

Lol. Look at the retained pattern on the front legs. Def. Not adspersus. Very cool frog nonetheless.

The seller got back to me with pics of the frogs that just came in from Mozambique.

He said he would like a consensus from the members here as to whether or not any of these are p. adspersus. I believe they are all edulis or other subspecies that are not true giants. However a majority vote by all us here would be very appreciated.

I thought he claimed adspersus? This would be a good one for FC BOI, DW.

He did and does claim adspersus for the frog that started this thread, as that was what it was sold to him as.

So is it adspersus or some "newly discovered species" from him?
