Default Morph naming trouble for the red eye tree frog

    LLL REPTILE (BRUNO) says:

    XANHIX: have silver eyes
    LEUTINO (albino): have red eyes

WHICH IS IT... because i ordered leutinos expecting RED EYES.
My leutinos that i ordered actually had SILVER eyes.

    GRRR =/

Sorry, I thought Leutino and albino were the same. Maybe they gave you Xanthics? I don't know.

Hey guys from my research, it seems the xanthics eyes stay silver and leutinos eyes eventually turn red. I could be completely off, but I too was curious about this.

Corey, our babies (both from LLL at the same time) have silver eyes that will turn red as they become adults. Albino(luetino) and xanthic both have silver eyes as froglets, the difference is xanthics stay silver as adults.

How are your little ones doing? mine are active as ever, don't care if i'm in the room or even moving their furniture around, they just eat!

Did it say how long it takes before the eyes turn red?

Well since they are a type of albino the grey eyes wont fit an albino as it is a dark pigment which albinos lack. The Leutino's that I've seen had more redish yellowish eyes.

From what I was told from the breeder I picked my Xanthic Red eye. He said Luetino is what Xanthic used to be called "Back in the day of the herp hobby", but is now referred too as Xanthic. Just what I was told not sure if its true or not. He is a reputable breeder though so I do trust what he says.

I have always understood albino and lutino (leutino) to be one-in-the-same.
    Xanthics - keep silver eyes

It takes quite sometime for the albino to develop their red eyes............months.
I purchased mine in Aug 2011 > eyes were not red until about December.

    Thanks..makes sense now.

My little ones seem to be ok. However they dont move off the live plant since i have gotten them. (they do have dirt on them which means they do go down to the bottom at night, i just never witness them do it). They are adjusted to the light on and light off at night perfectly fine. I have not seen them eat the crickets yet. =/ I have a mix of pinheads and smalls in there for them to choose from. What worries is me is that my RED EYE TREE FROG tadpoles are almost twice the size as the leutino red eye babies. Im guessing that when they morph into frog form they shrink ?? ALL PART OF MY LEARNING PROCESS OF BREEDING =). I will say my tadpoles and red eyes are very healthy.
*DIXIE* my blue morph acts so much different from the other red eyes. SHe wakes up hours later and today i found her sitting on the newly planted moss. Otherwise...fat as ever =P
