Default I want to provide a better tank for my 7 ADF's

    Hello all,

Currently I have my African dwarf frogs in a 46 gallon bowfront aquarium along with the myriad of other fish and plants.

One of the frogs is at least two years old and female, the other six are maybe nine months old.

I have noticed that a lot of them are coupling but not producing any eggs that I can see or they may be eating eggs or whatever I just don't see any eggs or tadpoles.

I have a 20 gallon long that I can set up for them and have just frogs in the tank is there anything special I need to put in there other than gravel that's large enough that can't be eaten plants and some type of filtration.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Oh you want to move the ADF from the tank with fish a species only tank?

I am not sure how stocked your 46 gallon is but ADF will do 'better' in a species only tank. Not sure about the mating/lack of eggs though.

They certainly will be less competition for food in a species only tank, where ADF tend to lose out to the more boisterous fish.

Also even if your frogs were producing eggs, would the fish (do not know species) not possibly be eating them?

    I have
    15 neon tetras
    3 Emerald cory's
    3 Otto's
    3 Cherry barbs 2 female 1 male
    7 Amano shrimp

It is heavily planted I will be home tomorrow evening and I will take a picture.

I would like to set up a nice tank just for the frogs.
    What size should I use.

I have frog safe heaters that have a plastic coating

Actually the largest ADF and the largest cory are best friends and play together all the time.
after all that are the oldest inhabitants in the tank.

    Hi,

itīs correct that ADFs do best in a species-only tank, so itīs a good idea to move them. Still, you seem to care very well for them, since they often get shy in community tanks, hide a lot or even starve. But chances are they will never spawn as long as fish are present and I know from my own experiences that the frogs will be most relaxed and fun to watch if kept on their own.
The 20 gal would be great, I think it can hold up to 15 frogs without problems. They love heavily planted tanks (as you know) with lots of hiding places. I would recommend smooth sand instead of large gravel, because food and dirt canīt be trapped and the frogs can easily pass it out if they accidentally swallow a few grains. You could also add a few shrimps and snails if you want, they wonīt disturb the frogs and help clean the tank a bit.
