Question Ups live animal shipping help

    ALL,

I want to outreach to people on the FROG FORUM ONLY and ship my RETF's to them or even my adoptions. Ive been only dealing with my local retailer as far as purchasing but id rather send to a loving home first.

IF ANYONE is experienced in LIVE ANIMAL SHIPPING....SPECIFICALLY RETF"s through UPS please help me get started. I went to their website and it was way to basic and not specific enough on how to properly package my frogs for them. Also shipping of RETF tadpoles. (some people wanted a tadpole).

Any advice here is appreciated. If possible please post photos of proper packaging to make it an easier transition for me.

    Hi CJ,
    I wish is could help.
Personally, I have never shipped a frog- I have only received them , both via FedEx and UPS.
My FedEx deliveries were all shipped/received via FedEx Priority Overnight .

So maybe look into FedEx - overnight as well as UPS!

While I don't have experience shipping frogs, I do have quite a bit of experience shipping dwarf freshwater shrimp, some of which were more delicate than frogs to ship. It is a royal p.i.t.a. to ship live animals. A lot of things can go wrong g and end up costing you a small fortune. Lost packages, poor handling, ect. If my wife hadn't killed my shrimp population, I would have stopped shipping and only sold locally . If I had done that from the start, my wallet would have been a lot thicker....lol

it just dawned on me. the best person to speak to on the forum about shipping frogs is mike (mikesfrogs). he's been breeding, selling and shipping phatties for quite some time. I'm sure he could give you some insight into it.

Mike helped me with shipping when I needed to ship my pacman. I made sure there was moist paper towels in the plastic container and that it was packed snug with foam and newspaper. to keep the temp up I used a 10 hour hand warmer found in the camping section at walmart. I did not put the warmer directly under the plastic container. I put it more off to the side and put a layer of newspaper in between. Mike was fortunately close to me but not close enough to drive to.
You want to make sure you right "fragile" and "this side up" with an arrow. I was advised not to write "live animal" on the box.
The thing that makes this all successful is timing and communication. I was in constant contact with mike from the moment I left to UPS store and he sent me a text the first thing when he picked up the frog. I dropped the frog off at 5pm. you want to drop the frog off as late as possible since the warmers only last 10 hours.
Keep all your messages in case something goes wrong. take pictures. document everything.

Hi Corey! No experience with shipping frogs but wondering if tadpoles wouldn't be like shipping fish? If so, you can get supplies online (Aquabid) or in local fish shops and there are videos in YouTube explaining whole process: How To Post or Ship Live Fish - YouTube and Shipping fish part 1 - YouTube . 4x the bags (invert them bag to bag) and use duct tape to reinforce the outside bag lower 1/3 (you do not want your package leaking at all). Then bags go into one of those disposable thermo boxes with layered newspaper. If heat or cooling pack is required, place it on top with newspaper between it and bags; then close thermo box and place in fit or cushioned cardboard box. Do same labeling in box as explained by Ariel and do not write "live animal" on box. IMO FEDEX provides better service than USPS or UPS; but costs more. Good luck !

To ship any kind of live animals legally across countries you need a transshipper licensed to do so in both ends. Cost is in high $100s due to fees and airline charges. Normally it's only feasible when sending many animals (100s) to divide costs among them .
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
