2 more questions about my pyxie

The first question is in regard to his water setup. We have a half and half setup in a 40 gallon tank and he has about 10 gallons of water (due to the rocks taking up a lot of room) and I was wondering if the large 20 gallon filter that i have gets out all of the germs that are in his waste. It is not practical for me to wash it every day so i was seeing if the filter i have is sufficient or if i need more. He has been very happy for over a year now so maybe I am just being a little paranoid.
My second question is if the canned grasshoppers are safe for him to eat, pretty much any info i have read has led me to believe that they can be a staple. But i found an article where a man said don't feed them to the african bullfrog because they can become ill from them. Thanks alot guys!!!!

First question - yes, if it works then I wouldn't worry about it

Second question - I wouldn't use them as a staple, just a treat.
