European nightcrawlers are a no. However, Canadian and African nightcrawlers are safe. I feed my own frogs Canadian nightcrawlers.

canadian nightcrawler ( dew worm) is a "big brother" of european nightcrawler known as earthworm. same species but differ in size. Both go by same scientific name Lumbricus terrestris.
both are perfect food for pixie, canadian are better because of the size, bigger pixie would rather eat bigger ones
you are probably mixing them with red wigglers Eisenia fetida, they produce odor that most frogs hate and if tried once will most likely never go for them again.

superworms have less chitin in their shell, but still can cause an impaction, of course if you give a superworm to a big male he won't get impacted, but for a baby you better not risk it.

Superworms will not cause impaction. The founder of this forum (John Clare) has even stated he has never seen any cases of mealworms even causing impaction. He pubically announced this in 2009, on this forum.

Lija your advise is always spot on. This subject though, I have to disagree. There's no fun in it if everyone always agrees right?

you are absolutely right! no fun at all

on a subject though, impaction can cause almost everything, except probably earthworms/nightcrawlers, we are operating on probability of risks involved more paranoid people ( like me lol) would rather exclude as many risks that they possibly can. others might house their frogs on a gravel and say they are perfectly fine. If some people didn't see something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I prefer scientific reasoning, hence if a frog ( or anyone really) eats something he can't digest and if that something is big enough to get stuck in digestive tract you have an impaction.

(even though it's not fun) I completely agree with you. Always use caution, and with juvi frogs, it's better to be safe than sorry.

oh sorry used wrong word i meant that he probably confused nightcrawlers with red wigglers and that is why he is saying they are no-no.

any nightcrawlers are good for them.
