They are just a side project. They all came under common names. So the Pitcher plant or sarracenia (family name) did not include exact species as well as the sundew. I also have a venus fly trap, but it decided to go dormant, and looks like heck right now.

The pitcher is definitely Sarracenia purpurea, the purple pitcher plant (can't tell which subspecies). The sundew looks like Drosera spatulata or D. alicae, or possibly one of the hybrid cultivars. No clue on the butterwort; could be Pingicula moraensis with winter leaves.

Oh, I figured we could narrow the species down further by geographical location. Your Flytrap went down? It should have been down from November to Febuary or March. They have to go dormant for 3 months out of the year or they wont survive. Mine is sleeping right now in the fridge with my Hooded Pitcher. Also a Sarracenia. I have a Cape Sundew and a Napenthes ventricosa.

I got the flytrap in late November. It was fairly warm here and then took a cold turn. I wasn't planning on making it go dormant this year. I live in a zone 10 as well. You should post some pics..

My Napenthes is small and is recovering from shock. I'm not sure what caused it, but it has began to grow once again. My Capensis is doing good since they like a cooler climate. I'll post some soon.

You were right on. The sundew is Drosera Spathulata. The pitcher plant is Sarracenia Purpurea. The butterwort is Pinguicula Moctezumae.

some nice carnivores there. SCF, you'll love thew spatulata, it's one of the very few sundews that grow well in high humidity environments. i keep a D. spatulata 'frasier island form' in my mantella palu.

Grig, i love that cape, they are such pretty plants. and that ventricosa is going to grow huge! (in about 20 years...lol)

nice plants guys!! it's refreshing to see some diversity on the plant level

    Thanks Bill!!

It's funny because people who are serious Carnivorous plant freaks say Nepenthes grow fast and I'm like Uhhhhh no they don't maybe in comparison to a Dragon Tree Lol!! It has begun to grow well again producing new pitchers.

As for the Capensis it went down earlier in the summer and I thought it died, but as the temps began to cool i noticed some very small new greenage and then it began growing again. They love cool temps and slightly lower humidity being from the Cape of Africa where it does actually get pretty cold. Now it has returned to full growth rate and feeding response.

I'm waking up my Flytrap and Hooded Pitcher today since it appears spring is coming early. They should grow pretty large after dormancy. Flytraps are my favorite!!

Not a complete lost cause---but nothing likes these beautiful plants.
I have managed to grow three species of tropical moss , of which I thought was nearly impossible.
Flytraps are my favorite carnivorous plant , too !

Did your Sundew make it Lynn? You can try again this year and get some nice plants . It's trial and error with these just as it is with keeping frogs. You'll read how easy they are to keep even for a beginner, but sometimes that feels like a lie. My best and biggest Flytrap I had 3 years ago didn't survive it's dormancy period and I was so bummed. It had 1.25" traps and they all turned really red .

Thanks Grif. My sundew is actually hanging in there.
The nursery where I shop is getting a shipment in the 'spring" and doing a seminar.

Sounds good!! The Cape sundews do really well in cooler weather so it might be liking your area. I'm hoping mine all survive their awakening this year.
