Hello
My son bought a red eyed tree frog about three weeks ago. Tonight he noticed a small reddish patch on the frog's skin (seen on the right shoulder in the attached picture)
Is this anything to be concerned about?
Thanks,
Rob
Hey rob, there are def some wonderful ppl around here that will stop by hopefully soon and help you out.
Check out the thread called "trouble in enclosure" answer the questions and repost info. That way when experts stop by they already have all the necessary info.
I haven't had my retfs long enough to be off much help. But I would say the spot is not normal coloring. What it could be I have no clue. But I know mine do not have any spots like that not have any that I have seen on healthy retfs in this forum.

Hi Rob,
I'm very sorry to have missed this thread.
I believe this could be a viral infection.
It requires medication(s) from a herp vet.
He will get better if treated properly.
Temporarily, you could use Noesporin ( or an equivalent ) ( WITHOUT PAIN RELIEVER)
Neosporin is a ( human) topical antibiotic ie used for minor abrasions
If neosporin is used with a pain reliever in it ... the pain reliever ingredient can kill the frog.
Apply daily to all spots until you can get to a vet.
It would be a good idea to get him into a hospital/quarantine tank.

You could answer these questions so that we may all help to identify changes that may need to be made moving forward:
1-size of enclosure
2-# on inhabitants - specifically ( if there is another frog ---size differences ?)
3-humidity
4-temp
5-water - type - for both misting and soaking dish
6-materials used for substrate
7-enclosure set up i.e. plants( live or artificial) wood, bark etc -how were things prepared prior to being put into the viv
8-main food source
9-vitamins and calcium ? ( how often )
10-lighting
11-what is, specifically, being used to maintain the temperature of the enclosure
12-when is the last time he ate
13-have you found poop lately
14-a photo would be great ( including the frog ) any little cell phone photo is fine

Hi DylansDad,
Lynn's posted the information for you. If you can answer these questions, we will be able to guide you. The original neosporin will seal the area and will help kill some types of bacteria.
We'll be waiting to hear back from you. Sorry I didn't see this post until now either.

yes, it is a concern. it is a type of fungal infection. one of mine had the same thing. you are going to want to isolate the frog and take it to vet listed for exotics, it is hard to convince a vet unfamiliar with the problem or the animal that you know what you need. you will need a prescription of 10% silver sulfadiazine
here is a website with more info from the person who helped me out The Frog Doctor
