    Default Im so excited !

Ok so I know this has nothing to do with frogs but I have to tell someone who might be as excited as I am. A rehabilitation center just called me at work and offered me 2 new raptors!!!!! One is a year and half male great horned owl and the second is a year and half female kestrel. I'm going to go pick them up tonight after work, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

    Wow Robin! How fortunate.
You are going to be very busy !
Is there a chance they could be released someday ?
They are both such beautiful birds. Good luck with them.

How are they feeding at this point in their re-hab.
    Any injuries?
    I'm so curious, sorry.

Yes ! please share some photos.

Okay so I went and got them last night. Unfortunately both are unreleasable, the kestrel is missing the tip of the long finger bone in one of her wings which stops her from being able to open her flight feathers there for she can't hunt. As for the great horned owl, the tree where his nest was fell and he got a unseen fracture in his shoulder which set wrong, so again he can't get his flight feathers all the way open. The only way to fix it would be deep tissue surgery on his shoulder. When is comes to birds that usually does more harm then good. So they will both stay with me for the rest of my there lives. Anyway here are a few pictures I took, I'll get better ones later today.

Wowzers. Unfortunate they can't be rehabilitated. Good for you for giving them a home though.

Have you ever taken care of raptors before? They seem daunting, especially something as powerful as a great horned owl.

That's awesome. Even though this is a frog forum, don't be shy about posting pictures of your new or your former charges so we can live vicariously through you.

***UPDATE*** so Archimedes (my great horned) and I have been invited to take part in a lecture at Loma Linda University on nocturnal animals. So I've had to put him threw an accelerated glove training program, needless to say he's not all that into it. What I would take months to do, I'm doing in 2 weeks. Wish me luck guys and girls o

Well Lynn I absolutely do know how lucky I am, but thanks. I promise to keep you all updated as it goes. Idono if I'm more excited about bringing Archimedes or the fact that the head of herpetology department will be doing the lecture with me. Can't wait to pick his brain

Again thank everyone, so yesterday went off without a hitch. I had a really good time, Archimedes was doing real good until we stepped out in front of everyone, then he freaked a little bit but then he got over it. At the end he freaked out over the bob cat but more so over someones little dog, silly bird. So they invited me back for a 2 day symposium in April, I can't wait.
