Default Attempting amplexus; a male exclusive characteristic?

So after feeding my two AGTF's frogs the other night, Verde and Boom were right next to each other on the Fluker's Vine, when Boom, my unknown who I feel may be male, climbed on top of Verde (my frog I know for a fact is male) and I believe tried to attain amplexus. After Verde blew up a bit (didn't croak but expanded), Boom hopped off and that was that. So my question is, is amplexus occasionally attempted by females for whatever reason, or would that be a sign that my little guy is in fact a guy? I still have yet to hear a peep out of him I believe (I may have heard two frogs signing while I was sleeping, but I only heard clearly recognized one, so I may have imagined the second in my half-asleep state), but am still trying to figure out his/her gender, and have been looking for any indicative signs.

tl;dr?- Is amplexus male only, or do females occasionally try to get top position for whatever reason. :P

Well Boom tried it again last night during feeding, so if someone does know anything about this, it would be very helpful for me determining if they're both male :P.
