OK,
She will not handle crickets or any kind of bug.
So I came up with this solution.
While I was at petsmart I found this cricket cage that has removable tubes that the crickets
love to hide in.
And when you remove a tube a little door flips down so there is little chance of escape.
it even has little trays for food and water gels.
So I plan on getting a small plastic container that has a hinged lid that is small enough
to put inside the enclosure and make a hole that is the same diameter as one of the
black tubes and glue a flap to cover the hole that can be lifted and the tube inserted with crickets.
Have her place the feeding container in the enclosure and put the frog in the container with a gloved hand.
close the container lift the flap and insert a tube of crickets and tap on it to make some crickets fall into the container and let the frog go to town.
once it has eaten its fill open the container and remove the frog.
and take out the container wash it out with some bottled water and let it stay open until the next feeding.
So what do yall think?
Looking at the title I thought this thread was going to be about feeding your wife to your frog. Joking! Interesting idea... I'd be interested in seeing how it turns out.
I travel 190 nights a year at min and she will have to feed it while I am away. so I hope this will work.
once I get the feeding box and modify it I will post pictures of it.
That will totally work. I do something similar myself and have yet to touch a cricket.
Why just not have her shake the crickets from the tube directly into the frogs enclosure and do the feeding free range? No need to handle the frog then. Or shake them out into a glass bowl inside the enclosure if you don't want crickets roaming the enclosure, see http://www.frogforum.net/vivarium-te...owl-trick.html
What kind of frogs do you have and is your wife willing to tweezer slow moving bugs like earthworms?
Alas my current setup is a 90% water substrate so a glass bowl feeder is not very feasible.
And dumping a tube full of crickets would only result in the majority of them drowning or escaping.
Also My wife will not use the tongs at all.
It will be all she can do to put the frog into the feeding box.
Hopefully over time she will get use to it.
That sounds like it might just work.
Give your wife some time and she might just get used to handling the crickets. I hate bugs of all kinds and after 6 months of having frogs I'm like "oh look there's a cricket on the ceiling" and go back to doing what I was doing. Especially if she wears gloves when she deals with the crickets she should get used to them in no time.
