I liked it because it looked as though it would crawl along the substrate--- it's doing well planted in that setting.

Very slight fuzz on the leaf---not rubbery
It's sending out little root tendrils at each leaf segment

With the fuzz, I am thinking begonia, but not sure. I will have to do a little research on this one.

Any idea where you got it?

So does this little pup and the roots mean I can remove the support off this 'silly' plant.

No. The pup just means it is happily reproducing. The roots need to attach to provide it support. Stuff some moss into the wire tie and you'll forget all about it lol

Frog day -- glass box tropicals

I don't think it's a begonia. The leaf is not bumpy. It's smooth but not waxy.
It will definitely attach itself to something.

( I'll take a cutting for you) = you have to travel to WP to get it though. Ha!

I have another one as well from that day that is still not planted in the tank.

Hi all. I have these for my terrarium, not sure what they are but i'm pretty sure I've seen other tanks with these in...any chance anyone can advise what they are and just confirm the safety of these for frogs... (frogs aren't in yet...going to wait for levels to stabilise)

First one is a plumosa fern and the second a pothos variety. Both are safe.

I agree, the feathery fern in pics 1 and 2 is the plumosa or asparagus fern (Asparagus setaceous) and while safe for your frogs, can be subject to fungal crown rot if it stays too wet... the pink and white splotched plants in 2 (and 3) are pink and white polka dots (Hypoestes phyllostachya), again totally safe but as they get older they tend to get a bit leggy, so pruning them back about 2/3 every now and then will keep them bushy... the lime green striped plant also in 2 and 3 seems to be a dracaena (possibly a young D. deremensis 'Lemon Surprise') but as with the plumosa, beware keeping it too wet (keep moist but err on the dry side)- where you position your mister heads can help manage the moisture levels

Ok, well I had a dieffenbachia in with one of my visiting Pacific chorus/tree frogs, and it didn't seem to harm her any, so I went out and picked up (saved really) a couple more, along with a few other plants, from a local grocery store. They were keeping houseplants in an outdoor display and way over watering the poor things, plus the night time temps have been WAY too cold for them! Anyway, I started researching the plants more and I came across info that said these were very toxic... "All parts of a Dieffenbachia Plant contain calcium oxalate, a chemical that irritates the skin." The sap is particularly poisonous. Should I opt out of keeping these guys in with my WTFs since they ingest things through their skin? Everyone uses pothos, which are also toxic (though apparently not to the frogs?) and I imagine frogs are all over these things in their native habitat too so... keep the dieffenbachias for the frogs, or...?

I also picked up some dracaenas (Janet Craig and Lemon Lime) and I guess they are generally safe. I got three Sanseverias (Snake Plant) but was surprised to learn they like drier air and do NOT like to be wet, and yet folks are keeping them in WTF vivs...?? I suppose it would work if I didn't spray the plant a lot and I keep the soil (supposed to be a cactus type potting mix) dryer somehow.

I have kept diffenbachia with white's before. The toxicity isn't an issue unless they ingest it. The real problem is that they just grow too darned big for most vivaria. Diff's are good for about 3-4' when fully grown.

Sansevieria is a weird one. It's a tropical succulent. That's the reason it does well in a Viv. There are a few that will do well.

Default the ultimate (?) plant thread

Hey guys! I originally posted this in the plant forum, but I was thinking that I may have a better chance at getting some input if I put it here! Thanks for any input anyone can give [emoji4]

It's been sometime now that I've visited Frog Forum, but I am nearing the end in my vivarium setup. I've finally had some time off of work & school to finish up this project, and after MUCH trial & error, my viv has finally passed a few water tests! I can't express the relief & excitement I have after having to reconstruct several times--why is water so darn unpredictable?

Anyway, I am now ready to plant! I am seeking moss! Live tropical moss was recommended to me in the past by some helpful users, but at this time I am unable to find ANY! I've checked Black Forest, as well as amazon---no luck! I am hoping for, well, what everyone desires in moss, some lush, vivid greens that will thrive & even, possibly, spread up my back wall a bit & over the wood! Any recommendations are so very appreciated, & if anyone has any for sale or know of someone who has some for sale, I am ready to purchase now!

    Thanks everyone!

Oh, and before Bill beats me to it, I understand that "vivid" greens, as I described, will come from some awesome lighting [emoji12]
I'm hoping for something shorter rather than longer & stringy--which, now that I think about it, may be effected by lighting as well. Thanks guys!
