Glow in the dark mushrooms

This is my attempt at handmade glow in the dark mushrooms
They are made with 'sculpy' glow int the dark 'polymer clay which then is baked.



I still need to do determine if it's safe to leave them in the enclosures and experiment what
with happens when they are exposed to the constant moisture ?



I didn't have much to work with as I only made the investment into a couple of colors. ($12.00)

I think that unless you seal it the moisture in the tank will soften it and cause the outer layer to break down slowly

Once baked properly, it's like firing a clay pot in a kiln, it becomes rock solid. The only reason for sealing them is to protect the frogs from paint chipping off. Lynn, i used the same stuff and mine have been in for almost a month with no signs of degradation. And one set are constantly wet.

There is no reason to seal. It's not painted.
I have a pc soaking in a glass of water ( only over night) So far- so good.

With a little practice, I think I could make better ones? It comes in 40 colors.
I need better/ more natural colors.

See, i just went with white so i could custom mix my colors. I know i could have mixed the clay, but i've been mixing colors all my life with paints, tattoo inks, ect, it just comes second nature to me

Lynn, they look awesome! Great idea! If you're worried you could seal them, but being they are clay, if baked (like DC mentioned) I think they'll be fine.

Can you imagine certain colors under the black moonlight bulbs? Some of my plants already glow orange and yellow naturally .

So here they are with some detail added.

There is one that is way too big. ( in pic #2 , 9, 10)

Some stems ( pic #1) before the caps are added and some very plain ones )pic #8) -before they are re-baked with added details. I have been doing it in stages because they are hard tricky to handle.

They're cute. The clay doesn't stay 'glowing' too long.
I put them in the dart enclosures.
I gave the red one to the imitators.
I'll grab some photos.

It's always good to be sure. I have used so little of it.

It is "pvc' based, once it 'cures'. FYI It does not adhere to silicone well.

We use plenty of pvc tubing/pipes under substrate where it has a much greater chance of leeching a possible 'toxin'

So I would most definitely not use a large amount of it.( like, on an entire background.)
I suppose we could find just as many possible issues w/ great stuff if we were to dig for information regarding 'toxins'
Or even with the plastic resin decorations from a pet store.
