My son's pacman finally ate nightcrawlers!!! I know that worms can regenerate their tails. But I don't know which end is the tail. Could someone please tell me how to tell?
Hooray! It takes awhile for them to get used to nightcrawlers but once they do they love them.
About 1/3 of the way down the body you'll see a 'band' around it. The end closest to the band is the head. If the band isn't visible (it's the reproductive structure and will not be present on a worm that has just mated) then the head is the round end, and the tail is the flatter end.
Or you can squeeze the worm. It won't kill it. Whichever end poo comes out of is the tail
From personal experience, the regrowth is very slow and the worms are more sickly after being cut in half. They usually live long enough to feed the tail at one feeding and the head at the next feeding, but not long enough to regrow really.
I thought that was the case. Thanks for the regrowth info. I didn't know that.
