Talking Oasis - Our Biggest Ceratophrys!

I realized I hadn't done a photo shoot with any of my frogs since August so I figured it was definitely time for some new pictures. Oasis and Luceriferin were the first two up so they got volunteered.

Oasis is the brown Cranwelli that we rescued from very dried out conditions in a pet store. She is named Oasis because she was alive in the "desert." She has turned out very well. She is now officially our biggest frog! She is easily 4 3/4 inches, 5 inches when she streches out. I think she still has some growth in her. My other females' appetites slowed down when they hit 4 inches, but Oasis eats a ton. Her head is also noticeably bigger than the rest of my Pacs. Her jaw is Massive! And she definitely has power legs.

She has lost some of her rusty/caramel coloring but is still very bright. She is very docile for a Pac. Which is good because that jaw could definitely do some damage!

LOL, I may have to rebuttal at a later time. But Oasis is huge! I hope she'll keep on growing. She's definitely a 5-inch frog with her spine straightened out. Luckily, my Cranwelli is also very docile. Some frogs will bite the **** out of you if any part of your body gets too close. So that is definitely a good thing when Oasis being nice and gentle.

All of our Ceratophrys are docile. I've been bitten 4 times. 2 were on purpose and my fault. The other two were accidents and caused by confusion between food and my fingers during feeding time Lol! I guess fingers do resemble large worms to them. That is just a part of keeping these large aggressive eaters.

Well the first time was from Sanguine my Blue Line Ornata. I was getting him out for a soak because he was due for a bowel movement and he had burrowed in the corner with his butt right in the center. Now we all know it is best to come in from behind when picking these mouths up. I did that and it was very difficult to get him out really gently since he was so close to the glass. When I finally got my hand under him he backed up in my palm. As I brought my other hand in to cup it around him without any warning at all he took it upon himself to latch onto the palm of my left hand just below my thumb which left a nice half moon of holes. I guess he let me know that he didn't appreciate the way I removed him from his burrow.

Now the second was from my second largest female Pariah. I had been trying to force feed Malachite who sadly is no longer with us . His UTI was severe and damaged his kidneys. He passed in my hand. I was very devastated as was Colleen. Anyway I was really frustrated because I couldn't get him to keep the food in his mouth and I was slightly angry. We put Malachite back in his enclosure and went to feed Pariah. Now most animals can sense emotions through pheromones and I believe frogs are no different. As I held the worm right infront of Pariah's face to feed her she turned away and leapt right for my hand completely ignoring the worm. This too was without warning and she did do it to cause pain because she chewed on the two fingers that were in her mouth. I guess she took my frustration and anger as aggression towards her and she retaliated by attacking my hand.

These animals are much more than just mindless garbage disposals. How you treat them and react to their behavior directly reflects how they will react to you and treat you. Not one of mine sees Colleen and I as a threat and never for no reason attack or even use their defensive stance at us.

People caring for these animals should keep that in mind.

Default Oasis - Our Biggest Ceratophrys!

She is awesome! What a cute face she has .

Rest peacefully little Malachite . I'm sorry for the loss of your little sweetie.

Ah yes, the pacman bite... Haha! I finger fed my fantasies for awhile. Until I was mistaken for food, ouch! Bruiser bites hard and does not let go. Little buddy held me until my finger tip went numb. Finally let go a few minutes later. Needless to say, we now use tongs

Thanks Heather! She is a cutie for sure. A BIG cutie! She was so good during the photos. Some of the others are well... less cooperative. Lol.

Finger feeding definitely is not the way to go! Not if you want to keep all of your digits connected.

Remember Oasis from the 90s? The Gallagher bros were constantly fighting each other and everyone else for that matter. They were such punks!

LOL! That's not what she was named after, but I guess the attitude fits most Pacs. Although this particular one is a big softie, not a punk.
