Hello,
my female GABF (Graboune) burrows 3 weeks ago.
She is just more than one year old.
This is her longest period of burrowing until now and if she has decided to burrow for months, coudl you please tell me how to manage ?
- I let the substrate becoming dry ? (At the moment, I spray water at the place where she burrowed, trying to avoid estivation)
- Should I decreas etemperature and lightning time per day ?
- When do you estimate it is necessary to wake her up ?
Thank you.
Are you wanting her to Aestivate or are you trying to bring her out?
I don't want her to estivate and in the same time, I don't want to wake her up now, just to respect her behaviour and to not create troubles.
I spray water every 3 days at the place she is burrowed.
I decreased the temperature. During the day, it is between 70F and 78,8F (78,8F is the temp just under the basking spot lamp, which is exactly the place where she is burrowed).
If you wanted to wake her up just unburry her and place her in a warm de-chlorinated bath that is chin deep. Soak her until the water cools and then place her in a second bath of the same depth and warmth until it cools. Warm her enclosure up to optimum levels and moisten the substrate to heavily damp, but not mud. Raise the humidity to 80% to 90% and she should come out of it.
Don't keep the humidity at 90% though because that's to high for everyday climate levels.
Hope this helps.
Hey,
I have sprayed consequently the place where she was burrowed during some days and on last Friday, I just removed substrate around her head. Finally after some minutes she opened the eyes.
That was one month long she was burrowed.
Then, I put her in a warm bath (In her water bowl inside the tank) and she stayed like this all the end of the day of Friday and all the night until saturday.
Then I decided to feed her and she ate a dead mice rapidly, she was hungry.
But, in the night of Sunday to Monday (Today), she burrowed again.
I assume now it is no matter to disturb her again and I have to let her as long as she wants.
BUT !
I am concerned by the fact she burrowed with a full stomach (Mice) and so, burrowed for a long time without making the "last poop".
If she doesn't come out of the substrate in the next weeks or months, maybe she can have problem, right ?
Should I (Again) put her out of substrate in 1 or 2 to weeks in a warm bath, then she makes her poop and then, if she wants to burrow again, it will be completely safely.
Thank you for your advises.
Yes I would remove her again and do the same thing again. Also when you do remove her from her burrow check the hole for poop. Also be sure to mix up the substrate really well so that she isn't sitting in the same substrate she may be urinating in while she slumbers.
If they Aestivate on a full stomach their can be problems, but if only for a few weeks it may not be so bad, but I would try again after a week or to this next time just to be safe.
You are welcome.
Update :
I removed her from substrate and put her in warm water during 3 days.
She made her poop (The mice she ate some days before).
Then, I changed the substrate and clean the tank.
I put her in the tank and she stayed outside during one day.
I said "Yeahh, she' awake now".
I decided to feed her. She ate one dubia roach, and then, 2 minutes after, went back under substrate again.
Now she is under since 3 days (With closed eyes).
I am now sure she wants to stay under the substrate for weeks or months for a rest period.
I wouldn't like to disturb her anymore until she comes out again, but....She has one dubia in stomach.
Should I disturb her again (Only for one dubia !) so that she makes a little "Dubia poop" or should I let her quiet, considering that one dubia in stomach during several months is not dangerous ?
Thank you.
Have you tried raising the temps?
