I'm gonna guess a Big-Eyed Treefrog, Leptopelis vermiculatus, but will also admit I'm not very worldly when it comes to frog ID's. Where did it come from?

Yes it does look like a Big Eye( brown phase) . But that species is from the tropical rainforests of Tanzania ? I was assuming she found it ?

BUT .........Litoria exophthalmia Big-eyed Tree Frog is native to New Guinea.
and Big-eyed Tree Frog (Peacock Tree Frog )(Leptopelis vermiculatus) species is found in forest areas of Tanzania?

Do you live in Canada? If so, that's a very long trip for this frog

I don't think we have identified him ?

Please don't put him with you red eyed tree frogs. Parasites ? and different species.

If you are asking my personal opinion as to whether I would keep a wild caught frog,
the answer is NO. It's very tempting, right. I don't animals from their natural habitat.
There are so many beautiful captive bred frogs to choose from.

Yes i do live in canada. yes he's a tanzanian forest native ..make me wonder how the hell he ended up here? have no close neighboor ..i think ill drop him to the pet store because im pretty sure putting him back outside will kill him since the temprature drop pretty close to zero at night already.
anyway thx evry1 and a big thumbs up

Lynn- those big adorable eyes don't look like any native treefrog we have in Canada.

Do you live near any greenhouses or other places that might get shipments from overseas that harbour stowaway frogs? More than one frog has been found in produce from a grocery store. Not generally from Africa, but stowaways happen.

Perhaps someone from a nearby city or town set it free in your area. And by 'set it free' I mean 'condemned to a cold wintery death'. I would keep it (in it's own vivarium as mentioned) or find someone who wants it. Since you already mentioned giving it to a pet store I have to ask- you don't happen to be in Southern Ontario do you?

I have to agree with what's been said so far. Its head is wrong for anything native to Canada. It does look like a Big-Eye.

The back legs are too long and it lacks parotid glands, this rules out toads. It also has big toepads that ranids don't have but are characteristic of treefrogs.

It almost looks like a new species of Grey Tree Frog. The color combination with the darker patterning looks like a Grey I found here. Maybe its a hybrid?

The shape of the head, especially the eyes, are wrong for a Grey treefrog and it lacks the characteristic green patch below the eyes. As far as I know we have nothing in Canada that can or will hybridize with a Grey (aside from an Eastern with a Cope's, but they still have the same appearance).

Perhaps someone's escaped pet? I know the head shape is off and the eyes are much too large for a Grey. I've never seen a Tree Frog with characteristics of many tropical/jungle Tree frog species in an area that is usually quite cool or cold. I'm not sure what we're looking at here. appearance of the frog with where its been found seems to be all wrong.

    I am no expert though.
