I have a pair of Fire Bellies at the moment and I'm thinking about getting a third, because my male seems to be harassing my female a great deal. He chases her around a lot while they're in the water and preforms the 'ol grab quite frequently. I'm worried that hes stressing her out, so I was thinking about getting another female to kind of spread the love around a bit so shes not always being bothered, she has been getting out of the grab then swimming around underwater to get away from him, or climbing some of the fake plants in the tank. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I go with my gut and get another female? Would another male potentially calm them both down, or would they both pursue her?
it's so hard to know for sure what sex the frog you get is without observing them so you might end up getting a male despite trying for a female anyways. I've got 3 males and i'm not sure if my 4th is a male or female, but s/he gets harassed by my one male... but he mounts the others too. if he's a frisky male, he'll go after both male and female. it's instinct to go a after any and just hope it's a willing female, lol
I had that exact same problem. I ended up with another male, but my Alpha male now torments both the lil girl and new kid equally and no longer stresses my lil girl out.
