Default Any hope for this frog?

If it's not one thing it's another ... anyway ...

My little (about 1 1/4" STV) ornate pacman has been impacted over a week. He has a lump on his left side as well as his right. I've tried honey soaks, pedialyte soaks, given him a couple of doses of Repta Boost, force fed a couple of worm pieces two different times. He's not been interested in food at all. The first dose of Repta Boost yielded a little poop, not much, and he still had a lump on both sides.

He has seemed to weaken and I can see a bone sticking up at his back end. He now stinks like poop.

I got him into a vet today and he said the frog was septic and recommended putting him down. He said he was too weak to be able to push out the poop.

Any thoughts on this? I hate to give up, but on the other hand I don't want to keep the frog alive if it is slowly dying.

Here's a picture I took of him a couple of days ago. He looks good here, but he is round due to being impacted.

Perhaps you could try gently massaging his sides? Or maybe even a makeshift enema? Griff will have more info for you I'm sure... Best of luck, keep us updated!

How often have you been feeding him after you noticed the impaction??

I am surprised that the vet didn't provide an antibiotic to at least try to help.

I tried a dose of Repta Boost soon after I noticed the impaction. He wasn't eating a day or two before. Then another dose of Repta Boost a few days later, then a small piece of worm two days ago as I thought that may help loosen it. That's all he's had.

Shouldn't feed them solids when impacted, but do not blame yourself. I'm not sure there is anything more you can do without something to help with the sepsis. You can try and Soak him again and gently massage both his sides in slow small circular motions while he soaks. Add about 4 drops of honey to the bath and be sure to pour some of the water over his back and directly over the vent and right behind it to stimulate a movement.

This is all I can advise if a Vet will not help. I'm sorry I wish I could do more

I gave him another soak tonight with some honey. I haven't seen him try to poop at all, he just sits there. I'll give this another day or two and if I can get in to see another vet I will do that.

This has made me very wary of letting the frogs catch their own food in their enclosure (those that still won't eat worms). I'm trying to mainly tong feed, most of my pacs will tong feed now except the two currently non-eaters and another that sometimes will tong feed and other times won't.

After a honey soak also place warm water in his water dish and place him in there. Sometimes they will go in their own dish after a honey bath.

fill an ice cream bucket half way with dechlorinated water, then fill up the sink with very hot water set the bucket in the hot water to warm up the bucket water. When the bucket water feels very very warm but not hot, take the bucket out of the sink and place your frog in the bucket. The response will be that you frog will kind of frantically swim around, kicking its legs. It'll swim a bit, stop a while, swim a bit. After a lengthy swim, place the frog in shallow warm water with honey in it and leave it be. If that doesnt work, repeat the next day.

Was your vet a herp specialist in any way? Some vets that dont know herps may misdiagnose symptoms because they dont understand the appearance or behavior of amphibian species.
Your frog has a full looking belly and probably is very constipated but its limbs arent swolen and it doesnt really look septic to me.

He was much worse when I got home this evening, barely able to move. He is now at peace, no longer suffering.
