Default Which Species of Pacman grow the largest?

I was wondering which species of pacmans get the largest? There are quite a few different species and was thinking about getting another pacman, but from a breeder this time... I've seemed to like big frogs for some reason ever since the day that I saw my friends white tree frog that was about 6 inches. Thanks

The largest species of Pacman is Ceratophrys Aurita, but you cannot get them here in the US without paying a substantial amount of money. Some of this species are know to reach 10" SVL. I've never seen one in person nor have I seen photos of a 10" one.

Next up is probably C. Ornata which have some females reaching a whopping 8" SVL, but more of 5" to 6" on average.

    C. Cornuta can reach about 6" in frmales, but usually are around 5" to 5.5".

    C. Cranwelli can have females reaching over 4.5" to over 5".

    C. Joazeirensis usually reach 4.25" to 5", but I've hear some can reach 6".

    The other 3 species,
    C. Calcarata
    C. Stolzmani
    C. Testudo

I don't know much about them other than Stolzmani being the smallest of all the Horned Frog species and also known as the Pacific Horned Frog.

Ornata are not that hard to find. Mike of Mike's Phat Frogs sells them and sometimes you'll get luck at pet shops.

From what I've been told Auritas are available in Japan and cost $300 for a baby. THEN you must pay the $700 to have it shipped to your home. I really want and Aurita, but do not want to pay that ridiculous shipping cost.

well, i thought that it was in the 200 range, but i was wrong. The shipping is just way too much. Argghh someone on this website must get an aurita and breed it!!!

Such a serious or annoyed face Colleen/Jerrod, lovely ! How long you had it? That Kingsnake seller with Auritas is also offering young C. Stolzmani's.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

We got her in January 2013. She loves her bath, but wasn't too keen on picture taking. Funny, right after I took this picture she managed to jump out of the bath and somehow landed right in the small measuring cup that we use to poor water in them. She just went PLOP, all the water splashed out, and suddenly we had a cup full of frog! I'm not sure who was more surprised.

I saw the add for the Stolzmanni... very tempting!

Wow, looks like I came along and got into these frogs at the right time. It would be great to grow up a big old Aurita to 10 inches! That's probably unrealistic, not every frog is a giant female monster, but it would be cool anyway.

    Grif your Aurita looks awesome.

    Thank you!

According to Philippe de Vojoli there are 5 Sub-species of Ceratophrys aurita.

This particular sub-species of aurita does not reach that size sadly, but is a very nice frog. Color varies greatly among individuals with non having the same color scheme or pattern. This one is from Kim Thomas' stock. Each Sub-species has their own location in Brazil so I'm sure diet and climate conditions greatly influence the growth of the Giant Horned Frog which hasn't been seen in years. Of course when I was younger I can remember everything grew larger than it does now so perhaps their potential size has decreased over the years since its discovery in the 1800s. We may never know for sure.

According to Kim this Sub-species only reaches a max of about 6" and like other species most don't reach that size.
