Default Heating With My Green Tree Frog

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if there were any ways that I could reduce the heat in my terrarium. I have one lamp on during the day (not sure of the wattage) and it always causes the temperature to climb up towards 90. With this happening, I have to turn the light off every now and then to let the temperature drop down before turning it back on. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey Frogger!
Hmm well.. If you knew the wattage that would be helpful. Usually Tree Frogs shouldn't have more then 60 watts. Also, is your thermometer under the light or on the other side? Usually for me, the more I mist the cage or use my fogger, the temp goes down. Also, there are some timers you could buy that shut off the lights every hour or so, that might be helpful. I did see this one device that controls humidity and temperature. It's like a sensor and when it gets too hot or cold it adjusts the heat source. (Same with the humidity.) But I'm not sure it works with lights or if it works with like heat pads... Anyways sorry I wasn't too much of help!!
    -Good luck!

What size tank do you have your frog in? Also, the wattage would definitely help to know why it is getting so hot. If you're using a regular house bulb then the wattage should be written on the bottom of the bulb. Try to find that out for us.

If your room temperature is between 70 - 75, then you can pick up a Reveal 6500K Daylight compact florescent bulb (I believe 13 watts is more than enough ) for about 5 dollars. They provide plenty of light with a lot less heat than an incandescent bulb and are also good for live plants.
The higher the light is off the tank the less heat is generated inside the tank. The closer you put it the warn the tank will get.

Thanks to all of you for responding! I believe the bulb is the original one that came in the lamp. I bought it when I had green anoles I think. So I can't believe it would have a very high wattage if it came with the lamp made for reptiles/amphibians. I have a 10 gallon tank for him, which I'm assuming is enough since I only have one frog. My light is on the middle of the tank and the light is about halfway down the left side of the terrarium. Thanks for the help!

I keep a little computer fan ( suspended from basement ceiling where my tanks are ) on a timer.
