Have a read of the African Bullfrog article linked on the left of every page on the site. The main differences are the shape and size of the head relative to the body.

Yes they do aestivate. If you let their substrate get too dry or whenever they feel like it. How long they go under is up to them. Dont bother them when they do go under this will stress them out.
BTW- Those are the coolest white markings I have ever seen on a pixie. Racing stripes!

Aestivation is a normal activity of African bullfrogs in the wild. My African bullfrog buried itself regularly each year. It is a good rule of thumb to make sure your frog is healthy before it takes a nap. Unhealthy frogs may not make it. The frogs go down looking like a plum and come up looking like a dried prune . The "racing stripes" appear on juvenile frogs and will disappear with age.

You chose a really cool name for your frog, Keroppi, is that one of the Sanrio ("Hello Kitty") characters?

My female African bullfrog was named "Spot", really original She past away a few months ago after 12 years.

Very nice look female!! I kind of wish they would keep their stripes, but alas it is not meant to be. Welcome to the Forum and we all look forward to more pictures! I have to agree, very cute name for her. My male is named Kadesh and my female is named Obi.

Looks like a male but another picture for scale would help too, as Losism says.

If it's 5 year's old and only 4 inches then it's either (a) stunted or (b) a female. More likely (b), it's a female with a male-ish head. My large male was 5 inches long in less than 4 months.
