I went to feed my babies this morning and found one looking rather swollen, could it be bloat? I don't feed them bloodworms so it's not because of that, so I'm not sure. Also, it has a bubble type thing on its foot, not got a clue what that is. I've got pictures, I apologise for the quality, I was being quick before the monkey swam off. Also, il post water test later when I get home if that's anything to do with it?
Bubble on foot
Swollen body
The bubble on the foot looks like it could be an abscess, which could be caused by some injury you may not have noticed. Aside from that, he doesn't look bloated to me, but it's hard to tell from those pics. I would separate him from other frogs for now. Is he eating?
Hopefully someone else will be along soon to give you more advice. Do you have an exotic vet nearby if it turns out he needs the potential abscess drained?
Hi, thank you for replying, I've just had a closer look at Yoda's foot and there must have been an injury, there is a claw missing! I don't know how this can have happened, he (i dont actually know the sex yet) seemed fine. I'm beginning to think frog keeping isn't for me, no matter how hard I try something always goes wrong
I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I recently adopted a turtle (red-eared slider) from an oil spill and did everything the best I could. She had the best tank, food, and care. And then one day I found that she had died in a freak accident (drowned after wedging herself under the filter). I was devastated. When I told the rescue what happened they understood how it wasn't my fault and wanted to offer me another turtle. I really did have a nice set-up and they wanted another rescue turtle to enjoy it. But I was so shocked by the whole thing that I don't think I ever want to own another turtle. It was too sad. I donated my stuff to the rescue.
Try not to be too discouraged about the frogs. I think you take great care of them. Check around the tank for anything sharp or rough. You never know what these guys can get into, maybe one of the other frogs bit his foot thinking it was food. If you get him treatment quickly he could be fine! He should probably have some antibiotics and have a vet look at him.
Even the best pet owners have these kinds of issues.
I'm going to ring round vets tomorrow to find one that deals with exotics. This has come at the worst time too, as finances are a major issue! I just want my frog to be ok though :-(
So, Yoda is at the vet tomorrow at half twelve, keep fingers crossed for me please
The vet said Yoda's bubble is just like a blood blister and will go down by itself
That's great news!
thanks
