I know that Fire Belly Toads contain a toxin which is harmful to other toads, fish, etc. I just set up a 20 gallon tank with a waterfall and an area with water for them to enjoy. The filter in the waterfall can filter up to 50 gallons, so it more efficient than what I would need for a 20 gallon. I understand that when mixing species I cannot mix FBT with tree frogs but could I put fish in the water area. I was thinking Rosy Red Minnows. They are too large to fit in the toads mouth (they are still small) but small enough to where if I just get a few the ammonia levels wouldn't be to high. Is this a bad idea?
I have white cloud minnows in with mine. My toads seem to leave them alone, but I keep them well fed. I think as long as your toads are feed enough you will be alright. as far as toxins go, I have never had a problem. I think the toads only give off toxins when they are provoked. I have had FBT for over 10 years with the minnows.
Ok cool! Where did you get your white could minnows? I work at a Petsmart and we only sell Rosy Reds.
I got them from my local Petsmart.
Hmm OK I'll have to calk around and see if any of the near by store have them. Thanks!
